Plain-English definitions for terms used in peptide procurement, COA review, HPLC/MS documentation and research-use compliance.

COA Certificate of Analysis. A batch document that may include purity, identity, appearance, lot number and release date.
HPLC High-performance liquid chromatography, commonly used to review peptide purity and impurity profile.
MS Mass spectrometry, used to support molecular identity review for peptide batches.
SDS Safety Data Sheet. A handling and hazard communication document for laboratory and shipping review.
RUO Research Use Only. A compliance boundary stating that materials are not for human consumption, clinical diagnosis or treatment.
Lot number A traceability code connecting a vial or carton to a specific production and testing batch.
Lyophilized Freeze-dried powder form used for many peptide research materials to support storage stability.
Purity The measured percentage of target compound under a defined analytical method, often HPLC.
Vial strength The labeled mass in a vial, such as 10 mg or 100 mg, used for inventory and procurement planning.
Endotoxin A quality attribute that may be relevant for some research workflows and should be discussed when required.
